LIBERTYHEALTH EVENTS
Every month we host a variety of events of interest to the general
and medical communities. These range from free community health
screenings, support group meetings and Continuing Medical Education
events for doctors, nurses and other health professionals.
SPECIAL EVENTS / IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS
During the month of May LibertyHealth will celebrate National Nurses Week (May 6th to May 12th). This year’s theme is “Nurses – Making a Difference Every Day” and we will be celebrating our valued nurses with a full calendar of events at JCMC and MHMC.
National Nurses Week coincides with Florence Nightingale’s birthday, May 12th. Many consider Nightingale to be the founder of modern nursing. The history of Nurses Week began in 1953 when Dorothy Sutherland of the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare sent the proposal to President Eisenhower. In 1974, President Nixon proclaimed a “National Nurse Week".
The JCMC Retention and Satisfaction Council is pleased to announce the grand opening of a wellness retreat room for Nurses called “Precious Moments” which will open during Nurses’ Week – Tuesday, May 6th. The purpose of the room is to promote wellness in nursing where wholesomeness overflows and lives endlessly and to insure that nurses have a respite from stress on their units, enabling them to rejuvenate and restore wellbeing. Location 5 East – Room 9.
We will celebrate National Hospital Week, May 11th to May 17th. The nation's most traditional health care event unites hospitals, health care workers and communities from coast to coast, building enthusiasm and pride in the giving nature of care. This years theme is Where Healing Happens Every Day”. Special events are planned for employees, medical staff and volunteers as part of the celebration including an ice-cream social from 3-6 PM on May 15th at JCMC and May 16th at MHMC. Treats are being arranged for the night shift. This is being sponsored by HR.
We will be traveling to the State Capital in Trenton on Monday, May 12th to unite with other hospitals and the New Jersey Hospital Association at a major rally. The purpose is to raise awareness about charity care for NJ hospitals. All those taking this trip will be going voluntarily and buses will be leaving from both Meadowlands and JCMC. If you wish to attend or have someone represent you, please call Ann McGee at 201 377-6056 to reserve your place on the buses. We also need everyone to use the internet to send a strong message to your elected officials. It only takes a few minutes but is very important to all of us. Go to www.njhadvocacy.com to do this. We ask that you contact John Doyle, VP Government Affairs (jdoyle@libertyhcs.org ) on how to help us or for more information.
May is National Emergency Medical Services Month and we recognize our Emergency Medical Services workers in celebration of this most important service. Hats off to our emergency teams, dispatchers, para-medics, EMT’s, nurses and physicians. LibertyHealth is arranging with new owners of the Empire State Building to have the building lighted in Orange, White and Blue (the EMS colors) on May 20th. Many other events are planned in celebration of EMS month for our dedicated staff, volunteer squads and the community that we serve.
