Ways to Give
"We make a living by what we get, but we make a
life by what we give."
Winston Churchill
When you give to the LibertyHealth Foundation, you personally help improve the health of Hudson County. You
may earmark your gift specifically for Meadowlands
Hospital or Jersey City Medical Center.
There are many ways to give, with varying tax and income benefits
associated with each. You should consult a qualified financial adviser
to discuss the specific benefits of each type of
gift for your particular situation.
Cash Gifts
Perhaps the simplest way of giving to LibertyHealth is by an outright
gift of cash. Cash gifts are fully deductible for tax purposes up
to 50% of your adjusted gross income. If the gift amount exceeds
fifty percent of your adjusted gross income, the excess contribution
may be carried over for up to five additional years until the full
value is deducted. You can write a check to LibertyHealth Foundation
and send it to:
LibertyHealth Foundation
150 Warren Street
2nd Floor
Jersey City, NJ 07302
Or you can call the Foundation Office at 201-377-6057 and charge the gift to your credit card.
Real Estate
Selling your home or other property that you have owned for some
time can result in substantial capital gains tax to you. Donating
property to LibertyHealth is a way to avoid the capital gains tax
and to give you a charitable tax deduction for the market value
of the property.
Bequests
You can plan a gift for future generations by including a bequest
to LibertyHealth in your will. There are a number of ways to make
a charitable bequest, such as giving a specific dollar amount, a
percentage of your estate, or a residual gift (what is left after
other beneficiaries have received their bequests). An attorney who
specializes in estate planning can help structure a bequest to meet
your specific wishes.
Securities
A gift of appreciated stock offers potential tax savings to you
in a number of ways. You can avoid capital gains tax, receive a
tax deduction for the market value of the stock, and reduce the
value of your taxable estate by the amount of the gift. The specific
value of the gift and its tax consequences are determined by the
date of the transfer of the stock. If you are considering a gift
of securities, you should discuss the logistics of the transfer
with your financial advisor.
Honor Someone Special - Memorial Tribute Brochure
Finding the right way to show someone you care can be difficult. In happy times, you may want to applaud an accomplishment or thank someone for a job well done. In sad times, you may want to let someone know you are there for them. But you may not know how to do it.
The LibertyHealth Foundation’s Memorial Tribute Program is perfect for all of those times.
How does it work? You make a donation to the Foundation’s Tribute Program. Any level donation is accepted, so you can give whatever amount you are comfortable with. When you make your donation, you let us know in whose name the donation is being made. If the person is living, you make the donation in their “honor.” If the person is deceased, you make it in their “memory.” Then, we send a lovely card to the person (or their family member or other person you designate), to let them know that a donation has been made in their name, by you (unless you ask to remain anonymous). It’s that simple!
The money you donate supports the health care services of LibertyHealth. By giving a gift to someone special in your life, you also give to others whom you have never met, since your donation helps LibertyHealth continue its mission of providing quality health care to those who need it most.
Other ways of giving
There are other options for planned giving, such as gifts of life
insurance, and charitable trusts. Depending on the type of gift
and how it is structured, you can receive a tax deduction and possibly
ongoing income. Why make a gift at year-end?
In addition to the good feeling you will get, knowing you have helped others, making a gift by the end of the year benefits you in other ways as well.
LibertyHealth Foundation is a tax-exempt organization recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) charity. This means that the IRS has determined that LibertyHealth Foundation is operated for legitimate charitable purposes. As such, contributions you make to LibertyHealth Foundation are deductible as charitable contributions on your Federal Income Tax Return. You receive the tax deduction in the year you actually pay or deliver your gift, so making a gift by this December 31 means that your contribution is deductible this year.
As an individual, if you itemize on your tax returns, you are generally able to deduct charitable contributions representing up to 50% of your adjusted gross income. For most people, that leaves a lot of room for giving! Corporations may generally deduct contributions up to 10% of their taxable income.
In these difficult economic times, everyone needs a little help come tax time. Getting a tax deduction for contributions made to LibertyHealth helps you in a concrete way, just as your gift helps our patients in a concrete way. Please consider making a year-end gift and help others today, while you help yourself at tax time!
Please feel free to call the Foundation Office at 201-377-6057 with any questions you may have about your year-end gift or about other charitable gift opportunities.
